Why Pick Rising Dragon for Tattoos in Manhattan NY

For decades, our studio has been creating custom tattoos on the border of Chelsea and the West Village. Here are a few things that set us apart:

  • Built by Founder Darren Rosa: Rising Dragon was founded by Darren Rosa, a New York native who grew up in Washington Heights, whose greatest artistic passion is Japanese tattooing.
  • Japanese Tattoo Art: We create Japanese-style tattoos such as dragons, koi, hannya masks, Japanese flowers, and sleeve tattoos. In Japanese tattooing, every element becomes part of a larger visual story.
  • Over a Century of Combined Experience: The artists at Rising Dragon bring more than a century of combined experience, and most have been in the trade for more than a decade.
  • Hand-Drawn Custom Designs: Every custom design is drawn by hand, and we can help you work out layout, placement, sizing, and design flow so your tattoo looks balanced on your body.
  • A Quiet, Laid-Back Space: Our studio is located on the second floor on West 14th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues, off the street-shop rush, so you get private, tailored service rather than an assembly-line visit.
  • Cover-Ups for Old Tattoos: Have an old tattoo you’ve outgrown? We also do cover-up tattoos that turn it into a fresh piece of art.
  • Open Every Day: We’re open seven days a week with evening hours, so it’s easy to fit a session into your schedule.

Best Tattoo Artist NYC

As the best tattoo shop in New York NY, among the most common questions we get from customers is how much pain to expect with a tattoo. We have hard working artists that make sure customers are as comfortable as possible during the experience. There are also things you’re capable of doing to prepare your body, including:

  • Drinking a lot of water
  • Avoiding blood thinners and alcohol
  • Making sure you have a good meal
  • Dressing comfortably
  • Getting an adequate amount of sleep

Your tattoo will be a much easier experience with these steps. In the majority of cases there is pain involved, but to compensate the body releases endorphins. Different parts of the body also have different tolerances for pain. Less pain is generally experienced in areas where you’ve got more muscle. This is because they’ve got a better ability to absorb a needle. This means legs and arms, making them great alternatives for the first tattoo you get. Our artists are here to answer all your questions and address your concerns. This is another reason Rising Dragon is the only choice you’ll require for the best tattoo shop in New York City.
