The owner Darren Rosa has always held reliability and Integrity in the highest regard.
This is why although we’ve changed locations a few times, we’ve always remained in the Chelsea, West Village area where we are easy to find. Being on the second floor, we have an exclusivity and privacy that is hard to maintain in the average street shop.
Darren Rosa is a native New Yorker, and a self-taught artist, who started with colored pencils, acrylic paint, a degree in research psychology from City College, he finally answered the Muse of Tattoo!
Although I started tattooing in 1984, I feel that 1992 was the pivotal year for growth. I moved out of the tattoo underground, that is tattooing in my coop apartment Inwood NYC. I had a full crew, two other artists in one apartment besides myself.
1992 I shared a loft space with David Menkes on 5th Avenue and 19th Street. I was paying business taxes even though tattooing was technically illegal. A health code misdemeanor. Outlawed since 1961 for fear of spreading Hepatitis.
1997 We moved into a store front in the Hotel Chelsea. We grew for 14 years there. Upon lease non-renewal, I found a space at our current location at 51 WEst 14th Street.
