Why Pick Rising Dragon for Your Next Tattoo in NYC

Rising Dragon has made the border of Chelsea and the West Village its home for decades. Here are a few things that set us apart:

  • Founded by Darren Rosa: Our studio was started by Darren Rosa, a native New Yorker born and raised in Washington Heights, whose biggest artistic passion is Japanese tattooing.
  • Japanese Tattoo Expertise: We create Japanese-style tattoos such as dragons, koi, chrysanthemums, cherry blossoms, and sleeve tattoos. In Japanese tattooing, every element becomes part of a larger visual story.
  • 100+ Years of Combined Experience: Our team of artists have more than a century of combined experience, and most have been in the trade for over 10 years.
  • Original Hand-Drawn Tattoos: Each custom piece is hand drawn, and our artists help with layout, placement, sizing, and how the design flows so your tattoo looks balanced where you want it.
  • A Quiet, Laid-Back Space: Our studio is located on the second floor on West 14th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues, away from the street-shop rush, so you get a more private experience instead of an assembly-line visit.
  • Cover-Ups for Old Tattoos: Got a tattoo you’re not happy with? We also offer cover-up tattoos to turn it into something new.
  • Open Seven Days a Week: We’re open seven days a week with evening hours, so it’s easy to fit a session into your schedule.

Questions concerning what you’re capable of excepting when it comes to pain are what we get often as the best tattoo shop in New York NY. Making certain that your experience is as comfortable as possible is what our artists are dedicated to. These are some of the things you can do to prepare your body:

  • Making sure you have a good meal
  • Getting an adequate amount of sleep
  • Drinking a lot of water
  • Dressing comfortably
  • Staying away from alcohol and blood-thinning medications

Following these steps is capable of leading to a much easier experience when it comes to getting your tattoo. In most cases there is some degree of pain. However, your body works to make up for it by releasing endorphins. Pain tolerance isn’t the same throughout your body either. Generally areas where you have more muscle are subject to less pain since they can absorb a needle better.
