Why Choose Rising Dragon for Your Next Tattoo in New York NY

Since 1992, Rising Dragon has been creating custom tattoos on the border of Chelsea and the West Village. Here’s what sets us apart:

  • Founded by Darren Rosa: Rising Dragon was founded by Darren Rosa, a native New Yorker born and raised in Washington Heights, whose biggest artistic passion is Japanese tattooing.
  • Japanese-Style Tattoos: We create Japanese-style tattoos such as dragons, koi, hannya masks, cherry blossoms, and full sleeves. In Japanese tattooing, each image becomes part of a larger visual story.
  • Over a Century of Combined Experience: The tattoo artists bring over 100 years of combined experience, and most have been tattooing for more than a decade.
  • Original Hand-Drawn Tattoos: Each custom piece is drawn by hand, and we help with layout, placement, sizing, and how the design flows so your tattoo looks balanced on your body.
  • A Quiet, Laid-Back Space: Our studio sits in a second-floor space on 14th Street, off the busy street level, so you get a more private experience rather than a mass-produced tattoo.
  • Cover-Up Tattoos: Got an old tattoo you’ve outgrown? We also do cover-up tattoos to turn it into something new.
  • Open Every Day: Our studio is open every day of the week with evening hours, so it’s easy to book around a busy week.

Best Tattoo Artist New York City

Questions regarding what kind of pain you’re capable of expecting are what we get often as the best tattoo shop in New York City. Ensuring that your experience is as comfortable as possible is what our artists are committed to. These are some of the things you can do to prepare your body:

  • Keep hydrated
  • Staying away from alcohol and blood thinners
  • Having a good meal
  • Wearing comfortable clothing
  • Getting an adequate amount of sleep

Your tattoo is going to be a much easier experience with these steps. In the majority of cases there’s some degree of pain, but to make up for it the body releases endorphins. Different body parts also have different ability to tolerate pain. Generally areas where you’ve got more muscle are subject to less pain as they’re better capable of absorbing a needle. This is why legs and arms are excellent options if this is your first time getting a tattoo. Our artists are capable of answering all your questions and addressing your concerns. The one choice you’re going to need for the best tattoo artist in Manhattan NY is Rising Dragon because of this.
