Why Choose Rising Dragon for Your Next Tattoo in New York NY

Since 1992, Rising Dragon has been tattooing on the border of Chelsea and the West Village. Here’s why tattoo lovers keep coming back:

  • Built by Founder Darren Rosa: Rising Dragon was founded by Darren Rosa, a native New Yorker born and raised in Washington Heights, whose greatest artistic passion is Japanese tattooing.
  • Japanese Tattoo Art: We create Japanese-style tattoos including dragons, koi, hannya masks, Japanese flowers, and full sleeves. In Japanese tattooing, each image becomes part of a larger visual story.
  • 100+ Years of Combined Experience: Our tattoo artists have over 100 years of combined experience, and most have been tattooing for over 10 years.
  • Hand-Drawn Custom Designs: Every custom design is drawn by hand, and we can help you work out layout, placement, sizing, and how the design flows so your tattoo looks balanced on your body.
  • A Quiet, Laid-Back Space: Our studio sits in a second-floor space on 14th Street, away from the street-shop rush, so you get a more private experience rather than an assembly-line visit.
  • Cover-Up Tattoos: Have a tattoo you’ve outgrown? We also offer cover-up tattoos to turn it into something new.
  • Open Every Day: Our studio is open every day of the week until 9 PM or later, making it easy to book around a busy week.

Best Tattoo Artist NYC

We get a lot of questions as the best tattoo shop in New York NY, but among the most common is what to expect when it comes to pain. Our artists work hard to ensure customers are as comfortable as possible throughout the experience. There are also things you can do to prepare your body, including:

  • Having a good meal
  • Getting an adequate amount of sleep
  • Drinking a lot of water
  • Dressing comfortably
  • Staying away from blood thinners and alcohol

Your tattoo will be a much less stressful experience with these steps. In the majority of cases there’s some degree of pain. However, your body works to make up for it by releasing endorphins. Pain tolerance is not the same throughout your body either. Areas where you have more muscle are capable of absorbing a needle better, which means they typically experience less pain. This means legs and arms, making them great options for your first tattoo. Our artists are capable of answering all your questions and addressing your concerns. The one choice you’re going to require for the best tattoo artist in New York NY is Rising Dragon because of this.
