Why Choose Rising Dragon for Tattoos in NYC

Our studio has made the border of Chelsea and the West Village its home since 1992. Here are a few things that set us apart:

  • Founded by Darren Rosa: Our studio was started by Darren Rosa, a New York native born and raised in Washington Heights, whose biggest artistic passion is Japanese tattooing.
  • Japanese Tattoo Art: We create Japanese-style tattoos such as dragons, koi, hannya masks, Japanese flowers, and full sleeves. In Japanese tattooing, every element becomes part of a larger visual story.
  • 100+ Years of Combined Experience: The team of artists bring over 100 years of combined experience, and most have been tattooing for over 10 years.
  • Custom Artwork Drawn by Hand: Each custom piece is drawn by hand, and we can help you work out layout, placement, sizing, and design flow so your tattoo looks balanced on your body.
  • Not a Tattoo Factory: Our studio is located on the second floor on West 14th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues, away from the street-shop rush, so you get private, tailored service instead of a mass-produced tattoo.
  • Cover-Up Tattoos: Got a tattoo you’ve outgrown? We also do cover-up tattoos to turn it into something new.
  • Open Seven Days a Week: Our studio is open seven days a week until 9 PM or later, so it’s easy to fit a session into your schedule.

Best Tattoos NYC

As the best tattoo artist in New York NY, among the questions we get most often from customers is how much pain to expect with a tattoo. Our artists work hard to make sure customers are as comfortable as possible during the experience. These are some of the things you can do to prepare your body:

  • Having a good meal
  • Getting an adequate amount of sleep
  • Keep hydrated
  • Wearing comfortable clothing
  • Staying away from blood thinners and alcohol

Your tattoo is going to be a much less stressful experience by following these steps. In the majority of cases there’s some degree of pain. However, your body works to make up for it by releasing endorphins. Pain tolerance is not the same throughout your body either. Less pain is typically experienced in areas where you have more muscle. This is because they have a better ability to absorb a needle. This means arms and legs, making them great alternatives for the first tattoo you get. Our artists are here to answer all your questions and address your concerns. This is another reason Rising Dragon is the only choice you’ll need for the best tattoo artist in New York NY.
