Why Choose Rising Dragon for Your Next Tattoo in New York City

Since 1992, our studio has been creating custom tattoos on the border of Chelsea and the West Village. Here are a few things that set us apart:

  • Founded by Darren Rosa: Our studio was started by Darren Rosa, a native New Yorker who grew up in Washington Heights, whose biggest artistic passion is Japanese tattooing.
  • Japanese Tattoo Expertise: We create Japanese-style tattoos such as dragons, koi, chrysanthemums, Japanese flowers, and full sleeves. In Japanese tattooing, every element becomes part of a larger visual story.
  • Seasoned Artists: Our artists at Rising Dragon have more than a century of combined experience, and most have been tattooing for over 10 years.
  • Hand-Drawn Custom Designs: Every custom piece is hand drawn, and we can help you work out layout, placement, sizing, and how the design flows so your tattoo looks balanced on your body.
  • A Private, Second-Floor Studio: Our studio sits in a second-floor space on 14th Street, away from the busy street level, so you get private, tailored service rather than an assembly-line visit.
  • Cover-Ups for Old Tattoos: Have an old tattoo you’ve outgrown? We also do cover-up tattoos to turn it into something new.
  • Evening Hours All Week: We’re open seven days a week with evening hours, making it easy to book around a busy week.

Best Tattoos New York NY

As a shop for tattoos in New York NY, one of the questions we get most often from customers is how much pain you’re capable of expecting with a tattoo. Our artists don’t just perform amazing work but also work hard to make certain the experience you have is as comfortable as possible. These are some of the things you can do to prepare your body:

  • Having a good meal
  • Getting an adequate amount of sleep
  • Keep hydrated
  • Dressing comfortably
  • Keeping away from blood thinners and alcohol

With these steps, your tattoo is going to be a much easier experience. In the majority of cases there’s pain involved. However, your body works to make up for it by releasing endorphins. Different body parts also have different ability to tolerate pain. Generally areas where you have more muscle experience less pain as they can absorb a needle better. This means legs and arms, making them excellent options for your first tattoo. Our artists are here to answer all your questions and address your concerns. This is one more reason Rising Dragon is the one choice you’re going to need for the best tattoo artist in NYC.
