Why Choose Rising Dragon for Your Next Tattoo in NYC

Rising Dragon has called the border of Chelsea and the West Village home for decades. Here’s what sets us apart:

  • Built by Founder Darren Rosa: Our studio was started by Darren Rosa, a native New Yorker born and raised in Washington Heights, whose greatest artistic passion is Japanese tattooing.
  • Japanese-Style Tattoos: Our artists create Japanese-style tattoos such as dragons, koi, chrysanthemums, cherry blossoms, and sleeve tattoos. In Japanese tattooing, every element becomes part of a larger visual story.
  • Over a Century of Combined Experience: Our artists at Rising Dragon bring over 100 years of combined experience, and most have been tattooing for more than a decade.
  • Custom Artwork Drawn by Hand: Each custom design is hand drawn, and we can help you work out layout, placement, sizing, and design flow so your tattoo looks balanced on your body.
  • A Private, Second-Floor Studio: Our studio sits in a second-floor space on 14th Street, away from the street-shop rush, so you get a more private experience rather than an assembly-line visit.
  • Cover-Up Tattoos: Got an old tattoo you’ve outgrown? We also do cover-up tattoos to turn it into a fresh piece of art.
  • Open Every Day: We’re open every day of the week until 9 PM or later, making it easy to book around a busy week.

Best Tattoo Artist NYC

As a shop for tattoos in New York NY, among the most common questions we get from customers is how much pain you’re capable of expecting with a tattoo. Ensuring that you have a comfortable experience is what our artists are committed to. There are also things you can do to prepare your body, such as:

  • Having a good meal
  • Getting a good night’s sleep
  • Stay hydrated
  • Dressing comfortably
  • Staying away from blood thinners and alcohol

Following these steps will lead to a much easier experience when it comes to getting your tattoo. In most cases there’s some degree of pain, but to make up for it the body releases endorphins. Different parts of the body additionally have different ability to tolerate pain. Generally areas where you have more muscle experience less pain as they’re better capable of absorbing a needle. This is why legs and arms are great options if this is the first tattoo you’re getting. Our artists are here to answer all your questions and address your concerns. The one choice you’re going to need for the best tattoo artist in NYC is Rising Dragon because of this.
