Why Pick Rising Dragon for Tattoos in New York NY

Rising Dragon has made the Chelsea and West Village area its home since 1992. Here are a few things that set us apart:

  • Built by Founder Darren Rosa: Our studio was started by Darren Rosa, a native New Yorker born and raised in Washington Heights, whose greatest artistic passion is Japanese tattooing.
  • Japanese-Style Tattoos: Our artists create Japanese-style tattoos such as dragons, koi, hannya masks, cherry blossoms, and full sleeves. In Japanese tattooing, every element becomes part of a bigger picture.
  • Seasoned Artists: The tattoo artists bring over 100 years of combined experience, and most have been in the trade for more than a decade.
  • Custom Artwork Drawn by Hand: Each custom piece is drawn by hand, and our artists help with layout, placement, sizing, and design flow so your tattoo looks balanced where you want it.
  • A Quiet, Laid-Back Space: Our studio sits in a second-floor space on 14th Street, off the street-shop rush, so you get a more private experience rather than an assembly-line visit.
  • Cover-Ups for Old Tattoos: Have an old tattoo you’re not happy with? We also do cover-up tattoos to turn it into a fresh piece of art.
  • Open Every Day: We’re open every day of the week until 9 PM or later, making it easy to book around a busy week.

Questions regarding what kind of pain you can expect are what we get often as a shop for tattoos in New York City. We have hard working artists that make sure customers are as comfortable as possible during the experience. There are also things you can do to prepare your body, including:

  • Drinking a lot of water
  • Avoiding alcohol and blood-thinning medications
  • Having a good meal
  • Wearing comfortable clothing
  • Getting an adequate amount of sleep

Following these steps will lead to a much easier experience when it comes to getting your tattoo. In the majority of cases there’s some degree of pain, but to make up for it the body releases endorphins. Pain tolerance isn’t the same throughout your body either. Areas where you’ve got more muscle can absorb a needle better, which means they generally experience less pain. This means arms and legs, meaning they’re excellent alternatives for your first tattoo. Our artists are capable of answering all your questions and addressing your concerns. This is one more reason Rising Dragon is the only choice you’ll need for the best tattoo artist in Manhattan NY.
