Reasons to Choose Rising Dragon for Your Next Tattoo in New York City

Our studio has made the Chelsea and West Village area its home since 1992. Here’s what sets us apart:

  • Built by Founder Darren Rosa: Rising Dragon was founded by Darren Rosa, a New York native born and raised in Washington Heights, whose biggest artistic passion is Japanese tattooing.
  • Japanese Tattoo Art: Our artists create Japanese-style tattoos including dragons, koi, chrysanthemums, cherry blossoms, and sleeve tattoos. In Japanese tattooing, each image becomes part of a bigger picture.
  • Over a Century of Combined Experience: The team of artists bring over 100 years of combined experience, and most have been in the trade for more than a decade.
  • Original Hand-Drawn Tattoos: Each custom piece is drawn by hand, and our artists help with layout, placement, sizing, and design flow so your tattoo looks balanced on your body.
  • Not a Tattoo Factory: Our studio is located on the second floor on West 14th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues, off the street-shop rush, so you get private, tailored service rather than an assembly-line visit.
  • Cover-Up Tattoos: Got a tattoo you’ve outgrown? We also offer cover-up tattoos to turn it into a fresh piece of art.
  • Evening Hours All Week: We’re open seven days a week with evening hours, so it’s easy to fit a session into your schedule.

Best Tattoo Artist New York NY

We get a large number of questions as the best tattoo artist in New York City, but among the most common is what you’re capable of expecting concerning pain. Making sure that your experience is as comfortable as possible is what our artists are dedicated to. These are some of the things you can do to prepare your body:

  • Drinking a lot of water
  • Avoiding blood-thinning medications and alcohol
  • Having a good meal
  • Dressing comfortably
  • Getting a good night’s sleep

Your tattoo is going to be a much less stressful experience by following these steps. In the majority of cases there is pain involved. However, your body works to make up for it by releasing endorphins. Pain tolerance is not the same throughout your body either. Generally areas where you’ve got more muscle experience less pain as they’re better capable of absorbing a needle. This means arms and legs, meaning they’re excellent alternatives for your first tattoo. Our artists are capable of answering all your questions and addressing your concerns. The only choice you will require for the best tattoo shop in New York City is Rising Dragon because of this.
