Reasons to Choose Rising Dragon for Tattoos in NYC

Since 1992, Rising Dragon has been tattooing in the Chelsea and West Village area. Here are a few things that set us apart:

  • Founded by Darren Rosa: Rising Dragon was founded by Darren Rosa, a New York native who grew up in Washington Heights, whose greatest artistic passion is Japanese tattooing.
  • Japanese Tattoo Art: We create Japanese-style tattoos including dragons, koi, hannya masks, Japanese flowers, and sleeve tattoos. In Japanese tattooing, each image becomes part of a bigger picture.
  • Over a Century of Combined Experience: Our artists at Rising Dragon have over 100 years of combined experience, and most have been tattooing for over 10 years.
  • Hand-Drawn Custom Designs: Every custom design is drawn by hand, and our artists help with layout, placement, sizing, and how the design flows so your tattoo looks balanced where you want it.
  • A Quiet, Laid-Back Space: Our studio sits in a second-floor space on 14th Street, away from the busy street level, so you get private, tailored service instead of an assembly-line visit.
  • Cover-Ups for Old Tattoos: Have a tattoo you’re not happy with? We also offer cover-up tattoos that turn it into a fresh piece of art.
  • Open Every Day: We’re open seven days a week with evening hours, so it’s easy to book around a busy week.

Best Tattoo Artist New York NY

As a tattoo shop in New York NY, among the most common questions we get from customers is how much pain to expect with a tattoo. Making sure that you have a comfortable experience is what our artists are committed to. These are some of the things you’re capable of doing to prepare your body:

  • Having a good meal
  • Getting a good night’s sleep
  • Drinking a lot of water
  • Wearing comfortable clothing
  • Avoiding alcohol and blood-thinning medications

With these steps, your tattoo will be a much easier experience. In the majority of cases there is some degree of pain, but to make up for it the body releases endorphins. Different body parts also have different ability to tolerate pain. Generally areas where you have more muscle experience less pain as they can absorb a needle better. If this is your first time getting a tattoo, arms and legs are great choices for this reason. Our artists are capable of answering all your questions and addressing your concerns. This is one more reason Rising Dragon is the one choice you’ll need for the best tattoo artist in NYC.
