Why Choose Rising Dragon for Your Next Tattoo in NYC

Our studio has called the border of Chelsea and the West Village home since 1992. Here’s what sets us apart:

  • Built by Founder Darren Rosa: Our studio was started by Darren Rosa, a New York native born and raised in Washington Heights, whose greatest artistic passion is Japanese tattooing.
  • Japanese-Style Tattoos: Our artists create Japanese-style tattoos including dragons, koi, hannya masks, cherry blossoms, and full sleeves. In Japanese tattooing, each image becomes part of a bigger picture.
  • Over a Century of Combined Experience: The tattoo artists bring over 100 years of combined experience, and most have been tattooing for over 10 years.
  • Custom Artwork Drawn by Hand: Every custom piece is drawn by hand, and we can help you work out layout, placement, sizing, and design flow so your tattoo looks balanced where you want it.
  • A Quiet, Laid-Back Space: Our studio sits in a second-floor space on 14th Street, away from the street-shop rush, so you get private, tailored service rather than a mass-produced tattoo.
  • Cover-Up Tattoos: Have a tattoo you’re not happy with? We also do cover-up tattoos that turn it into a fresh piece of art.
  • Evening Hours All Week: We’re open every day of the week with evening hours, making it easy to book around a busy week.

We get a large number of questions as a tattoo shop in New York City, but among the most common is what you can expect concerning pain. Making certain that you have a comfortable experience is what our artists are committed to. These are some of the things you can do to prepare your body:

  • Drinking a lot of water
  • Avoiding blood thinners and alcohol
  • Having a good meal
  • Dressing comfortably
  • Getting an adequate amount of sleep

With these steps, your tattoo will be a much easier experience. In the majority of cases there’s pain involved. However, your body works to make up for it by releasing endorphins. Pain tolerance isn’t the same throughout your body either. Typically areas where you’ve got more muscle have less pain as they can absorb a needle better. If this is your first time getting a tattoo, legs and arms are great choices for this reason. Our artists are here to answer all your questions and address your concerns. This is another reason Rising Dragon is the only choice you will need for the best tattoo artist in New York NY.
