Why Choose Rising Dragon for Tattoos in NYC

Since 1992, our studio has been tattooing on the border of Chelsea and the West Village. Here’s what sets us apart:

  • Founded by Darren Rosa: Rising Dragon was founded by Darren Rosa, a native New Yorker born and raised in Washington Heights, whose biggest artistic passion is Japanese tattooing.
  • Japanese Tattoo Art: We create Japanese-style tattoos such as dragons, koi, hannya masks, Japanese flowers, and full sleeves. In Japanese tattooing, every element becomes part of a bigger picture.
  • Seasoned Artists: The artists at Rising Dragon bring more than a century of combined experience, and most have been tattooing for over 10 years.
  • Custom Artwork Drawn by Hand: Every custom design is drawn by hand, and our artists can help you work out layout, placement, sizing, and design flow so your tattoo looks balanced where you want it.
  • A Quiet, Laid-Back Space: Our studio sits in a second-floor space on 14th Street, off the busy street level, so you get private, tailored service instead of an assembly-line visit.
  • Cover-Up Tattoos: Got a tattoo you’re not happy with? We also do cover-up tattoos that turn it into something new.
  • Open Seven Days a Week: Our studio is open seven days a week with evening hours, making it easy to fit a session into your schedule.

Best Tattoo Artist New York NY

We get a large number of questions as a tattoo shop in New York NY, but among the most common is what you’re capable of expecting when it comes to pain. Our artists work hard to make sure customers are as comfortable as possible during the experience. There are additionally things you’re capable of doing to prepare your body, such as:

  • Drinking a lot of water
  • Staying away from blood-thinning medications and alcohol
  • Having a good meal
  • Wearing comfortable clothing
  • Getting an adequate amount of sleep

Your tattoo is going to be a much easier experience with these steps. In the majority of cases there’s some degree of pain, but to compensate the body releases endorphins. Pain tolerance is not the same throughout your body either. Areas where you’ve got more muscle are able to absorb a needle better, meaning they typically experience less pain. If this is your first time getting a tattoo, arms and legs are great options for this reason. Our artists are here to answer all your questions and address your concerns. The only choice you’re going to need for the best tattoo artist in New York NY is Rising Dragon because of this.
