Reasons to Choose Rising Dragon for Your Next Tattoo in NYC

Our studio has called the Chelsea and West Village area its home for decades. Here are a few things that set us apart:

  • Founded by Darren Rosa: Rising Dragon was founded by Darren Rosa, a New York native who grew up in Washington Heights, whose biggest artistic passion is Japanese tattooing.
  • Japanese Tattoo Art: We create Japanese-style tattoos such as dragons, koi, hannya masks, cherry blossoms, and full sleeves. In Japanese tattooing, each image becomes part of a larger visual story.
  • 100+ Years of Combined Experience: Our team of artists have more than a century of combined experience, and most have been in the trade for more than a decade.
  • Hand-Drawn Custom Designs: Each custom design is hand drawn, and we can help you work out layout, placement, sizing, and how the design flows so your tattoo looks balanced on your body.
  • Not a Tattoo Factory: Our studio sits in a second-floor space on 14th Street, away from the busy street level, so you get a more private experience rather than a mass-produced tattoo.
  • Cover-Up Tattoos: Got an old tattoo you’ve outgrown? We also offer cover-up tattoos that turn it into a fresh piece of art.
  • Open Seven Days a Week: We’re open seven days a week until 9 PM or later, so it’s easy to book around a busy week.

As a tattoo shop in New York NY, among the most common questions we get from customers is how much pain to expect with a tattoo. Making sure that your experience is as comfortable as possible is what our artists are dedicated to. There are also things you can do to prepare your body, including:

  • Having a good meal
  • Getting an adequate amount of sleep
  • Drinking a lot of water
  • Dressing comfortably
  • Keeping away from alcohol and blood-thinning medications

With these steps, your tattoo is going to be a much easier experience. In the majority of cases there is some degree of pain, but to compensate the body releases endorphins. Different pain tolerances can be expected from different parts of the body as well. Less pain is typically experienced in areas where you have more muscle. This is because they have a better ability to absorb a needle. If this is your first time getting a tattoo, arms and legs are excellent choices for this reason. Our artists are here to answer all your questions and address your concerns. This is one more reason Rising Dragon is the one choice you will require for the best tattoo artist in New York NY.
