Reasons to Choose Rising Dragon for Your Next Tattoo in NYC

Since 1992, Rising Dragon has been tattooing on the border of Chelsea and the West Village. Here’s what sets us apart:

  • Founded by Darren Rosa: Rising Dragon was founded by Darren Rosa, a New York native born and raised in Washington Heights, whose biggest artistic passion is Japanese tattooing.
  • Japanese Tattoo Expertise: We create Japanese-style tattoos such as dragons, koi, hannya masks, Japanese flowers, and sleeve tattoos. In Japanese tattooing, each image becomes part of a larger visual story.
  • 100+ Years of Combined Experience: The team of artists bring over 100 years of combined experience, and most have been in the trade for over 10 years.
  • Hand-Drawn Custom Designs: Every custom piece is hand drawn, and our artists help with layout, placement, sizing, and design flow so your tattoo looks balanced on your body.
  • A Quiet, Laid-Back Space: Our studio is located on the second floor on West 14th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues, off the busy street level, so you get a more private experience instead of a mass-produced tattoo.
  • Cover-Up Tattoos: Got a tattoo you’re not happy with? We also offer cover-up tattoos that turn it into something new.
  • Open Seven Days a Week: We’re open every day of the week with evening hours, so it’s easy to fit a session into your schedule.

Best Tattoos NYC

We get a lot of questions as the best tattoo shop in New York City, but among the most common is what you can expect regarding pain. Our artists work hard to make certain customers are as comfortable as possible during the experience. There are also things you’re capable of doing to prepare your body, including:

  • Having a good meal
  • Getting a good night’s sleep
  • Stay hydrated
  • Wearing comfortable clothing
  • Avoiding alcohol and blood thinners

Your tattoo is going to be a much easier experience with these steps. In the majority of cases there’s pain involved. However, your body works to make up for it by releasing endorphins. Different parts of the body additionally have different ability to tolerate pain. Areas where you have more muscle are able to absorb a needle better, meaning they generally experience less pain. This is the reason legs and arms are excellent options if this is the first tattoo you’re getting. Our artists are capable of answering all your questions and addressing your concerns. The only choice you’re going to need for the best tattoo artist in New York NY is Rising Dragon because of this.
